Stress makes people do funny things. In need of my light-hearted stuff, I decided to move entries over here for a while.

After reading a commentary from the Straits Times Form (read it here) regarding the paper chase, it further affirms my puzzle regarding how the government works. How many countries in the world actually sponsors foreigners to their land to study? One would have thought that most countries, like Australia, tries to attract foreigners to pay for their education in their universities instead of using their own taxpayers' money to pay for these foreigner "talents".

What happen next? Just like what the commentary suggests, Singaporeans probably have to move to other countries for their tertiary education, elevating the number of Singaporeans who are subsequently labelled "quitters". On the other hand, China' Chinese population is very rich in their tradition and I feel that their patriotic nature as well as fillial piety exceeds those of Singaporean's western-influenced lives. With this, I would think that their roots are deep in their country's soil and what makes the government actually think that they would want to stay here in Singapore and contribute?

Maybe I am missing a bigger perspective here regarding the government's contradictory action. Meanwhile, I will stay disillusioned.

Okay, I don't like this time of the semester. One part of my brain is thinking about my looming project deadlines, one part of it is worrying over examinations preparation, another part is anxiously pondering upon workstuff. So as my brain simultaneously get worked up over all these issues, the day would silently creep by. In the end, nothing much is done!

Grr.

My schoolmate's newborn niece is named ethlyn. I think. It sounds like some chemical we use for experiments during Chemistry, doesn't it? So, on the subject of names, I mentioned to CS I like the name Ethan. (Hey, I vaguely recall reading about this name on somebody's blog).

CS: Ethan Lee. Ethan Lee. Ethan Lee.
Me: Say it faster and it sounds like Italy.
CS: OH Yeah! *Excited*

He is excited because he is a mad fan of Italian Soccer. He has Italian National Anthem as his ringtone (but strangely no Singapore Anthem). Isn't it weird to be worshipping another foreign country when they don't even know your existence? I would rather worship my own country. Hur hur.

Anyway, to add on to his excitement, I informed him that if his child happens to be a girl, he can call her "Ita". In this way, she will be "Ita Lee". Peeerrrrfect.

My grandfather is in the hospital, recovering from a hip fracture.

I was never close to my paternal grandfather because I was brought up by my maternal grandmother. Nevertheless, I welcomed him when my dad decided to take him in after my grandfather's flat was demolished. However, it is regrettable to say that I felt increasingly affected by his eccentricity and growing more detached than ever. After all, he had fended for himself for a long time and it was no wonder he was untrusting, unloving and selfish.

Now that he is bed-ridden, I feel sorry for him. I tried visiting him, but there is nothing much to say. I do want to buy some foodstuff for him to chew on during those boring hours but am quite afraid his untrusting nature will think I am up to no good. (He thinks people are always after his wealth) Perhaps, I will just get some of the food he likes and hand them to the nurse to pass them to him.

I spent the last 6 hours working and poring over equations after equations and still.. I can't get a freaking answer!! *Bangs head* I wish I have a Super Matrix-like brain or something that enables me to see each problem question and go "AH!", enlightened as the solutions just float by like some 3-d plane.

But no. Reality is cruel. Now, the bunch of plants in my office are shaking their fists at me because their fellow plant mates have died producing paper to feed my equation-writing frenzy. SEE! Being stupid kills.

By the way, here are some photos of a friend's ROM last saturday. Why is everybody getting married!! On a similar note, I have many friends whose birthdays are in September, leading me to conclude many parents like to make babies during the Dec/Nov holidays. Probably due to the rain. *thoughtful*

DOH! Why am I wasting my thoughts on this! Back to freaking equations. F-R-E-A-K.

I'm so happy that Lord of The Ring won every single category that it has been nominated for! (though it's really none of my business). But why isn't Aragorn aka Viggo there to share the glory with the rest? In each award ceremony, all I see are wide-eyed hobbits! Why!

Oh well, cs bought me life-size LOTR poster which I thought is really a useless ornament. It doesn't really match my room decor but I guess I could use it for some dosage of Viggo. Sigh.
